Tower cranes enable the construction industry to make several wonderful structures. These cranes have been designed to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes provide the means to raise and transport building parts, materials and tools around a construction location. There are a few different parts which assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes different pieces of construction machinery.
The tower crane base is normally made from a steel unit. The units' base connects to a custom pad made of concrete. This set-up gives the structure stability. Generally, the construction has to be engineered and built well so as to operate at optimum safety.
The mast of the tower crane provides height to the equipment. The mast is made of attached steel sections. The amount of sections determines the crane's height. Normally, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding further parts as the building process continues. This way the height of the crane can be specified, making sure that it has enough height to perform the required work efficiently and safely.
Above the mast is the slewing unit. It houses the motor and machines which enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of equipment which enables the mast to grow. The top climber sits just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams inside the top climber enable the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.
"Boom" is a term which specifically refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made of steel sections connected together, that extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley attached to the underside that could extend the length of the boom. This trolley has the hoisting mechanism.
When reaching up and overtop of obstacles mounted on floors, machinery and equipment, articulating man lifts are the ideal choice. These machines can reach high places that are not accessed easily by a telescopic or straight boom lift.
The cherry picker or articulated boom lift is hydraulically powered lift which could easily access, high areas above ground level. An articulated boom lift is controlled by the operator from a panel that is located in the bucket.
The different components of the articulated boom allow it to travel in various directions. Like for example, a boom lift is capable of traveling both vertically and horizontally, as opposed to a scissor lift, which can just travel vertically. The boom lift can easily reach over huge obstacles by being able to travel in opposing directions. This boom is attached to and supported by a grounded vehicle.
Boom lifts are usually used by window fitters and construction crews who need a strong and stable platform on which to stand when completing work on the outside of a building. Tree surgeons and lamppost engineers as well as firefighters regularly use boom lifts.
